VOLVO Feature Aids Vision Limited Driver:

Stephanie Hutcheson of Lancaster was unable to drive due to limited peripheral vision. Her eye doctor suggested she consider the Blind Spot Information System now featured on many Volvo models. She is thrilled to be driving again behind the wheel of her 2008 Volvo C30 equipped with BLIS.

Stephanie is pictured above pointing to the BLIS image detectors mounted underneath each side view mirror and the BLIS alert lights mounted on each door. Just another example of how Volvo puts safety first and foremost in automobile design - not only for accident survival, but for accident prevention following the charter pronounced by Volvo Co-Founders that "Cars are Driven by people The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo, therefore, is and must remain safety".

Note: BLIS is intended to supplement, not be a substitute for, recognized good visual driving practices.

Thanks for supporting Alex's Lemonade Stand on June 7 and a special thank you to Alexa Stadel for hosting and serving ice cold lemonade to our customers on such a hot day - for the fight against childhood cancer - One Cup at a Time.

In 2000, a 4 year old cancer patient named Alexandra "Alex" Scott announced a seemingly simple idea -she was holding a lemonade stand to raise money to help "her doctors" find a cure for kids with cancer. The idea was put into action by Alex and her older brother, Patrick, when they set up the first "Alex's Lemonade Stand for Childhood Cancer" on their front lawn in July of 2000.

For the next four years, despite her deteriorating health, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. Following her inspirational example, thousands of lemonade stands and other fundraising events have been held across the country by children, schools, businesses, and organizations, all to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for childhood cancer. On August 1st, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 -- she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research in her short lifetime.

Alex's spirited determination to raise awareness and money for all childhood cancer while she bravely fought her own deadly battle with cancer has inspired thousands of people, from all walks of life to raise money and give to her cause. Alex's family and supporters are committed to continuing her inspiring legacy through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501c3 charity. As of June 2007, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $18 million for childhood cancer research. The result -- Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation has given millions of dollars for childhood cancer research across the country!

Founding Sponsors: Volvo Cars, Iams Pet Foods, and BJ's Wholesale Clubs.

Fighting Childhood Cancer One Cup at a Time!

Thank you in Alex's memory

2009 VOLVO XC 60

Safe, stunning and smart - the new 2009 Volvo XC60 redefines the small premium crossover The new Volvo XC60 is stepping boldly into what is currently the automotive world's fastest-growing segment - dressed in a thrilling blend of muscular XC capability and the sporty charisma of a coupe. "This is not only the safest Volvo ever - it's also the most stunning," says Volvo Cars President and CEO Fredrik Arp.

The new XC60 has its world premier unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with the first cars reaching dealers in Europe in fall 2008.

The "Small Premium Utility" segment is growing quickly. Within the next few years, buyers will have at least ten crossover models to choose from. By 2009, this segment is expected to expand by 75 percent to 443,000 units.

"In order to succeed in that kind of competition, you have to create a vehicle that stands out from the crowd," says Arp. "The new XC60 bases its unique appeal on the synthesis between daringly sporty design and a range of intelligent safety systems that help the driver avoid accidents."

The big safety news is City Safety - a unique system that can help the driver avoid or reduce the effects of the type of low-speed impacts that are common in city traffic. If the car is about to strike the vehicle in front and the driver does not react, the car automatically applies the brakes.

"Volvo is the first in the world to offer this type of feature as standard," says Arp. "City Safety clearly signals that the new XC60 is the safest car Volvo has ever produced. The car is packed with our accumulated safety know-how and technology, both when it comes to preventing accidents and protecting all the occupants in a collision."

Six-cylinder turbo standard

The new XC60 will be available in the U.S. with Volvo's six-cylinder turbocharged T6 engine producing 281 horsepower. All Wheel Drive (AWD) with Instant Traction is fitted as standard on all variants.

"Owing to its compact dimensions - the XC60 is 7.9 inches shorter than the XC70 and lower than the XC90 - it continues our range of slimmed-down car models with high energy efficiency," says Arp.

Volvo's engineers developed the XC60's chassis settings for aggressively sporty handling that promotes a feeling of safety and control. At the same time the suspension has been tuned to provide a smooth and comfortable ride befitting a luxury crossover.

Target buyers tuned in to technology

The XC60 targets a group of customers who impose high demands on design, brand integrity and high-tech content in its choice of lifestyle products. One might say that it's all about consumers who've grown up with the microchip as a natural supplement to their breakfast cereal. They're used to the immensely fast pace of development in the world of electronics - and every succeeding birthday has brought with it increased capacity in ever-shrinking gift packages.

When it comes to the choice of a car, these consumers adopt the same view as they do for other lifecycle products - all of its properties should be integrated into one single attractive and intelligent package.

"One might say that this could be the C30 owner's next car," says Arp. "It's as sporty and exciting, but more capable. This is an all-round car for the person who lives in the city and for the young family taking the kids for a weekend of fun and adventure.

"We're aiming primarily at lifestyle rather than age. With the XC60 we are broadening our model range to attract even more customers with an active urban lifestyle. Like the Volvo C30, the XC60 plays an important role in our planned volume expansion strategy."

Europe and North America Sales Targets

The sales target for the new XC60 is 50,000 units per year. Distribution between Europe and North America is uniform: about 40 percent each. The remaining 20 percent is destined for other global markets.

The five largest markets during the peak year 2010 are expected to be the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Russia and China.

"This car has a natural appeal in North America," says Arp. "Here in Europe it is the sporty personality in combination with the compact format that attracts new buyers, primarily women. The XC60 offers a feeling of space even though it is shorter than the XC70.

"The fact that both China and Russia are among the five largest XC60 markets is proof that these growing markets are beginning to mature. Both markets will advance even higher in sales in the future."

The Volvo XC60 will be built at the Volvo Cars factory in Ghent, Belgium. Sales will start in Europe during the fall of 2008, while sales in North America are targeted to begin in early 2009.

Volvo Celebrates 80th Anniversary

....rich heritage accompanies North American debut of the all-new Volvo XC70

New York (April 2, 2007) - This month, Volvo celebrates eight decades of safety consciousness and care for the environment. Volvo core values are very much in evidence with its latest product introduction at the New York Auto Show - the all-new Volvo XC70.

Since the first Volvo car - the four-cylinder Open Car known as ÖV4 - rolled out of the Goteborg, Sweden, factory in April of 1927, numerous automotive milestones and industry benchmarks have gathered like moss. The Latin word "Volvo" translates to "I Roll."

The passion and dreams of the company's founders, Assar Gabri elsson and Gustaf Larson, live on today. Their credo is ingrained in the Volvo DNA: "Cars are driven by people. The guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo, therefore, is and must remain, safety." Volvo is globally recognized as the safety leader.

Volvo has produced many world-firsts in automotive safety. The three-point seat belt was a Volvo innovation, and today these safety devices are standard in all passenger vehicles. It has been said that there's a little bit of Volvo in every car.

Volvo's concern for child safety in automobiles led to the world's first rear-facing child seat. Another industry first in child safety is being introduced in the all-new XC70. Thanks to an innovative height-adjustable child booster cushion integrated into the rear seat, children of different sizes are provided sufficient viewing out of the windows, while still providing the most effective protection.

Here are just some of other notable Volvo safety developments: seat belt reminders; seat belts for rear seats; child safety locks for rear doors; hazard warning lights; Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS); Side-Impact Protection System (SIPS); Roll Stability Control (RSC); Blind Spot Information System (BLIS); and, DMIC (Door Mounted Inflatable sips bag) for convertibles.

Environmental stewardship has always been a Volvo priority, and there, too, can be found many innovations that have influenced the automotive industry. Volvo introduced the three-way catalytic converter with the Lambda sensor. This environment friendly device removes up to 90 percent of noxious exhaust gases.

The judicious selection, and the ef ficient use, of materials has always been a Volvo hallmark. Recyclables are a prime consideration. Volvo production facilities perennially rank among the most environmentally sensitive operations of its kind in Europe. For vehicle occupants, Volvo introduced PremAir®, a radiator coating which converts harmful ground-level ozone into pure oxygen. The air inside of the car is literally cleaner than the air outside. And most recently, Volvo introduced the first V8 engine to meet the standards of ULEV II (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle).

Through the years there have been numerous Volvo cars that helped shape the brand and perception of Volvo. Volvo shipped its Swedish best-seller to the United States in 1955, and the appearance of the Volvo PV444 at the 1956 New York Auto Show launched what would become the marque's largest global market. By the summer following the show, 100 dealers had signed up to sell Volvos in the United States.

The PV444 was followed by the iconic Volvo Amazon (or P120), a spacious four-door family sedan. During the 1960s, Volvo consulted with orthopedic practitioners in designing the seats for the Amazon - the premise being that there is a correlation between seating comfort and safety. Sales of the P120 exceeded 665,000 and established a reputation as a car that kept "going on and on," a reference that has remained with the brand.

The Volvo P1800 echoes that refrain by being in the Guinness Book of World Records. Irv Gordon, a retired school teacher from Long Island, N.Y., has driven his 1966 P1800 more than 2.5 million miles. At a fraction of the cost of Italian sports cars, the P1800 sports coupe established itself as an international car and the design stood the test of time being cons idered the best-looking Volvo ever made.

The Volvo 240 with its iconic "boxy" look helped solidify the brand's safety leadership. In 1976, the U.S. Department of Transportation purchased 24 Volvo 240 sedans to help establish future safety standards. During its lifecycle, which spanned 19 years, there were 2.8 million units produced in the 240 series.

The Volvo 850 represented the Volvo's biggest-ever industrial project, proved to be an integral piece in the company's history. The front-wheel-drive 850 was presented as "a dynamic car with four world-firsts": a five-cylinder engine, transversely mounted (which set the stage for all Volvo engines since); the Side Impact Protection System (SIPS); self-adjusting belt reels for the front seats; and, a Delta-link rear suspension.

The Volvo S80 introduced a new design language. Along with the inherent - yet further developed - safety and environmental attributes, this flagship sedan began to re-shape the perception of Volvo. Design and styling were creeping into the picture, and it was voted "The Most Beautiful Car in the World" by an Italian motoring magazine. Today's S80, in its third generation, continues the tradition of safety, technological innovation, functionality and styling.

Volvo entered the SUV market in a big way with the launch of the Volvo XC90. The XC90 was an immediate success, and continues to be the Volvo sales leader. Volvo's "next-generation SUV" quickly gained the highest safety ratings from independent testing bodies in both Europe and the United States. Globally, the XC90 has garnered more than 60 accolades for safety , versatility, engineering and its 4x4 capabilities.

These vehicles, and the dedication to the company's core values, have helped define the Volvo brand. New cars like the C30, the all-new XC70, V70 and the upcoming XC60

will further enrich the heritage, and expand the appeal, of Volvo cars.
